New Generation Of Xperia Devices Unveiled By Sony

Sony trotted out a line up of new Xperia mobiles at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona. They included an exciting mid-range smartphone, a very slim and light 10-inch tablet and two phones, all running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The mid-range smartphone, Xperia M4 Aqua was the most intriguing announcement of the day. It is a smartphone with a premium look and boasts some top-shelf specs at a reasonable price.

The design of Xperia M4 borrows heavily from the previous Xperia Z series, with the body being both dust-proof and waterproof rated at IP65/68. With the new nano coating technology, the device retains its waterproof rating even with the microUSB port being cap-less. It is nice that you can get a waterproof port without a little dangling rubber plug to worry about.

The Xperia M4 Aqua’s 5.2-inch display has a resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels at 293 ppi. Embedded on the backside is a second plate of tempered glass which comes in four color options: coral red, silver, black or white.

The device packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. It sports a 13MP primary camera which is powered by Exmor RS mobile sensor. The camera has ISO sensitivity up to 3200 and a bright f/2.0 aperture. The secondary camera has 5MP sensor.

As you can see, these specs are more than modest, making the device to be a very capable Lollipop phone. It also has an impressive build quality, so the fact that it will be priced at less that $350 makes it a good deal. Even thought there’s no word yet on US carriers, the Xperia M4 Aqua will be available across Europe in spring.

Also on Sony’s plate is the Xperia Z4 tablet which follows the company’s previous efforts, the Z series, borrowing some features from the Z2 Tablet and Z3 Tablet Compact, while improving upon some features in some areas.
The Xperia Z4 tablet boasts a 10-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2048 by 1080 pixels. The display is brilliant and sharp making it great for playing games and watching movies. It packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor – 64-bit, with 32GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM. It has a microSD card slot that can be used to boost it internal memory.

The other devices demonstrated here are low-end Xperia E4g and Xperia E4 Dual phones. Both have less-elegant and thick bodies, and have 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 540 by 960 pixels. They are powered by Mediatek quad-core processors and have 8GB of internal memory and 1GB of Ram each.
