The newest title of the Call of Duty sequel has been revealed with a trailer and a release date. In this article, we will show you the Call of Duty franchise and its similarity to other games.

One of the most popular titles in PC gaming, Call of Duty has amassed huge sales during the years. The company behind the COD games is, of course, Activision. The game’s genre is FPS, which means first person shooter. For those who don’t know what that means, let me help. In first person shooters, you only see what you would see in real life: your hands, legs, etc. So, you don’t see yourself in the game, only your limbs (and, of course, the weapon that’s in your hands). It’s just like using your own eyes.
The Call of Duty franchise made a pretty great debut when the first game was released. It was a brand new type of video game with great graphics and controls. This lead to high popularity, since gamers have adored the new idea that Activision has implemented into their games. They have released an expansion to the base game (United Offensive) then moved to one of the most classical Call of Duty games, Call of Duty 2.
Both Call of Duty, United Offensive and Call of Duty 2 are set in the era of World War II. Later in the franchise Call of Duty 5: World At War was set in this historical time. The franchise was listed as one of the best “world war shooters” in many gaming sites.
After Call of Duty 2, the company have tried to change its image. They have implemented console gaming, however, they made a huge mistake with Call of Duty 3 since they only released it to consoles. This was a failure since the game hasn’t got much attention, so only a few people bought it. The most successful game of the franchise was Call of Duty 4, which was set in the modern “nowadays” era, that’s why the game was called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The company has made a huge engine upgrade from Call of Duty 2 to Modern Warfare. The company has set so good and exciting missions in the game that gamers have enjoyed every moment of the game. Activision has also made a multiplayer part of the game, which made Call of Duty 4 one of the best multiplayer shooters of that time.
I could list all Call of Duty games in this article, but I think that would be quite boring. Let’s just see the franchise from another viewpoint: customer satisfaction and gaming improvements. Call of Duty is a pretty popular franchise nowadays, however, there’re tons of hate it. This is not the normal “fanboy” hatred that gamers usually do when they play another game’s competitor and they like it better. No, Activision has made things that gamers are pretty outraged at the moment. The company hasn’t changed or updated majorly the franchise’s engine for at least 6-7 years. Quite a lot of time, huh? Just let’s check out other titles, like Crysis who changed their engine in 2-3 years.
Call of Duty has not only attracted more hate because of not changing the gaming engine, but since they have released very similar games every year with minimal upgrades to the previous one. This was a great business move, however, customers have become more and more enraged since their favorite games have not changed during the years. The franchise has lost several loyal customers due to this.

As I have written in the first paragraph of this article, the new trailer of the upcoming Call of Duty game has been released. Black Ops 3, however, looks quite similar in story to the Deus Ex franchise. The game not only looks similar in story to another game, but in gameplay too. They have implemented gaming elements from many other games, for example, they have used Titanfall’s ideas. This a quite bad thing to do, since customers always respect the uniqueness, however, we will see what will happen!
